What would you say to Love, Time, and Death?
Hello there!
Does the above question genuinely intrigue you as it does me? What would you say to an abstraction such as Love, Time, and Death? I honestly don’t know what I’d say to any of them if they were listening. This question was raised to me by this amazing film I recently watched called “Collateral Beauty”. An intriguing question and title with an equally captivating premise: A brilliant entrepreneur who lost his six year old daughter writes to the abstractions Love, Time, and Death about his grievances with them; Later his soon-to-be bankrupt coworkers find these letters and use them to try and gaslight him to save their livelihoods; they hire actors to impersonate those abstractions and color the man as out of his mind and unfit to manage his shares of the company.
This film hosts an amazing all-star cast including Will Smith, Edward Norton, Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet, Michael Peña and Naomi Harris. It’s emotional, thought provoking, and truly unforgettable. It sucked me in quickly and demanded my investment in its beautiful story and message. It made me cry much too easily and for far longer than I would like to admit. I honestly can’t think of any faults to this remarkable film. “Collateral Beauty” is an instant classic and it is now a genuine all-time favorite of mine.
Did the twist at the end surprise you? I was pleasantly surprised. What did you think of its score and soundtrack? I thought it was fitting to the story and consisting of truly great songs and score pieces. One song became a new favorite of mine - “Looking Too Closely” by Fink. Did the story move you? Did you cry? Be honest. We’re all friends here ;). As of June 2021, you can check out “Collateral Beauty” on Netflix. Watch the movie, and come back to tell us what you thought!
